Yvonne Brandt
Licensed 50 Ton Boat Captain
Yvonne’s adult sailing life has carried her to the waters in Texas, Germany, Arkansas, Maryland, Virginia, down the East Coast, and the Caribbean. While in the Air Force, her family made an effort to own or rent a boat at each duty station, culminating in a year spent cruising down the ICW and across to the Bahamas. After retirement and selling their last boat, and her still wanting to the on the water, she asked herself “Who could let me play on boats for free?” She now feeds this desire by volunteering with the Sea Scouts, working as a charter captain, and teaching ASA courses at SailTime. Her fix for old boats is satisfied with Sea Scouts, where she has replaced rigging, fixed fuel issues, troubleshot leaks, and worked on the engine. SailTime provides a balance to that and gives a great opportunity to teach and play on new boats. Her next major endeavor is in a new eco-charter business. She is excited to help citizens young and old understand the way that the entire Chesapeake Bay Watershed is connected and how human activities affect it, in a fun immersive adventure.
