Jayne Durden
Sailboat Skipper
Happy Place
Jayne’s boat was named aptly when she found it - it truly is her “Happy Place”. She appreciates the connection the name gives to the previous owner and the history this boat has on the local waters. As a woman boat-owner, she is still learning, like many other female captains, how to overcome the assumption that the boat isn’t hers; learning to quickly correct the men, some of them dockmates, when they walk by and congratulate her male guests for finding women crew. She channels energy into helping other women on the water, taking them out and allowing them to try different empowering roles at sea. Her accomplishments on a boat inspire other women to conquer their fears on the water. And she’s looking forward to one day upgrading to a longer waterline. In her words, “I quite like going fast.”
