Rose DiMatteo
100 ton USCG Licensed Boat Captain
Edna Lockwood
Rosie is bold and brave. Before she was even allowed to take the training wheels off her bike, she went along with her brother when he taught her to skate. Despite being the only girl on the team, she rose to captain of her high school hockey team. That quest for captain continued into the maritime world in adulthood. Her time on boats supports her flexible and traveling lifestyle. From crewing on a charter schooner in Key West to hopping aboard the tall ship Lynx, then working at the Schooner Sultana and falling in love with Chestertown and even working aboard tug boats in Baltimore, she has loved all the adventures on the water. Upon learning about the captain’s position available on the Edna Lockwood at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, she considered applying but was nervous about the prospect being the sole person in charge of such a large historic ship. Thankfully, with the support of loved ones she was able to bring forth her bravery and fill that role. It is one the most fulfilling experiences she has had, and she is continually grateful for all that life is able to offer.
