Virginia State Pilot

Growing up on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Jan enjoyed playing on the water and watching the large ships travel up and down the Bay. After learning about pilots while she was in the Coast Guard, Jan knew that was the career she wanted. She spent the next couple of decades working determinedly to accomplish her goal. Attending a maritime academy and then going through the lengthy and rigorous pilot training and apprenticeships have led her to where she is now - one of the select few who pilots ships in the Bay to their destination. She is fortunate and has placed herself in a position where she has enjoyed her work for her entire adult life. Her next goal on the water involves boats of a smaller scale - learning how to sail during instructional vacations in the Florida Keys.
