Beth Berry
100-ton USCG Licensed Boat Captain
Kyrie
Beth learned to sail on the Finger Lakes of New York, where her dad sent her out and told her to have fun and don’t go too fast. She now goes as fast as she can, especially in the long-distance races she prefers, recently placing 3rd in her class for the Block Island Race Week, and looking forward to next year’s Annapolis to Bermuda race. She also likes sharing the joy of sailing with others, in various capacities. Her first commercial use of her captain’s license was teaching women to sail with Womenship. This is expanding now with more educational opportunities, teaching keel boat sailing for US Sailing and at the military academy. Beth currently uses her decades of experience in the hospitality business for Brendan Sailing, a program that provides sailing opportunities to children with learning differences. Her enjoyment of racing and the sailing community is matched by her love of the quiet moments on the water. A blessing to Beth is the Elysian experience of a nighttime ocean passage, sailing by the stars, with the brilliant show of the night sky above.
