Charlene Dye Dix

Fishing Boat Owner

Fishing was Charlene’s lifeline during a time when she needed something for herself. She grew up boating and fishing with her grandfather, then learned more of the finer points of fishing with a friend when she was a young adult. At a certain point in her life with a house and family, she realized that she needed something that was just for her. Her solution: buy a boat. Soon she was hooked. Afternoons of “just one more reel”, pride at catching speckled trout, entries in fishing tournaments, international fishing charters, camaraderie with other female boaters - these all feed her soul. Whether it’s starting a business or practicing trailering, she’s gained so much skill and confidence from her relationships with other women. She highly values the friendships in her life. She has also developed into a supportive teacher, taking out friends who appreciate the learning environment she provides. Her female friends especially want to learn from another woman. She loves passing on her knowledge and seeing the light click on in other people’s faces. And at the end of the day, when she feels the pull to cast that line just one more time, she can look at the waters she’s grown up on and feel a sense of belonging.
